Dark Rising: Book Two of the Archangel Prophecies

by Monica McGurk

I’ve mentioned before that I’m always a little hesitant to commit to read a new author’s book.  Especially when they personally deliver it to me.  I’m afraid I’ll hate the book and then have to figure out how to let them down easily.  When that happens I never write about it because I don’t want to crush someone with a negative review.

However when I really like a book I can’t wait to write about it and that is the case for Monica’s books.  Back in 2012 she gave me Locked, then The Key and eventually packaged 2 books into one as Dark Hope.  With each installation I could not WAIT for her to hurry up and finish writing the next book.  She recently gave me Dark Rising and when I finished I was so happy to see that the end of the book has a sneak preview to the finale of the series….Dark Before Dawn.   I just had to know if Michael was okay or not.

The trilogy is in the teen science fiction genre and reminds me of the Twilight Series.  Interestingly enough, Monica has written an award winning alternate ending to the Twilight Series entitled Morning Star.  I’m definitely going to have to make time to read Morning Star…… I miss Edward and Bella.

Sadly, I can’t get my boys to read (for fun) and have book chats with me.  However,  Burger Boy’s girlfriend is an avid reader and she likes to read and discuss books with me!   I gave her my copies of Dark Hope and Dark Rising and she LOVES them and passed them along to another DHS teen girlfriend who really likes these books too.   Get some copies for your high school girls or for old girls like me who enjoy teen fiction!!

One final note….the author, Monica McGurk, is a Dunwoody resident.  She and her husband (Tom) are very active in the community.   Many of you probably know her and didn’t realize she is a very talented author!
