Audra’s 2017 Halloween Synopsis and Trick or Treat Graph since 1984

My husband and I bought our home from the original owners in 2002.   The Orgerons loved Halloween.   Interestingly enough, they kept a tally of the number of trick-or-treaters that came to the front door each Halloween since 1984.   We kept up the tradition of counting as accurately as we can with the help of all our Halloween guests each year! We missed 2014 because we were in Oxford, Mississippi for college football but we’ve been very strict counters except for that year!  We are back up his year!  It was a very spread out group…never too many at once….our total was 137.  Here are the highlights…

  • The clear costume winners were four adorable girls dressed in primary colored tutu outfits labeled as “one fish”, “two fish”, “red fish” and “blue fish”.  They were the last to arrive so I gave them huge handfuls of candy!
  • My husband was better this year with his Apple Music Halloween playlist.  He was broadcasting from our little but loud Bose speaker out the window next to the front door. The kids seemed to like it…especially when he added music from Stranger Things and The Walking Dead.
  • This year in order to help kids overcome their fear of my harmless 11 year old dog I offered extra candy to every kid who would pet him.  NOBODY refused this opportunity.

Were you up or down on your trick or treat numbers?  Please leave a comment and mention where you live!

  1. I seemed have fewer, closer to 80 instead of 120ish. Biggest difference was how early they stopped coming, around 7:30/8pm. Previous years we had a continual flow until at least 9pm, maybe bc it was a school night. I just polled a class of 22 6th graders and all but two said they “trick or treated” last night.

  2. We had way fewer this year compared with the last few years. I assumed they all went to Briers North because of the article in the AHA!

  3. We had more this year, perhaps because we’re combining efforts with new neighbors across the street with 2 adorable girls. We set up 1 big table and save the kids from climbing to the top of our hill. My fav was the adorable 8 month old dressed as Hegwig the owl (older brother was Harry Potter, sister was Hermione).
