Book of the Week: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

The Great Alone: A Novel

I know three families heading to Alaska for summer cruises this year.   I’m personally a warm weather vacation kind of gal and have never even considered wanting to go to Alaska….until now.  One of my Alaska bound girlfriends (Kristin) texted me last week that while reading this book she kept thinking how much I would love it.   So….I downloaded it that day and was finished by the end of the next.

It’s long….it took me two days to read it….I couldn’t put it down.

The Great Alone is definitely the far and away  winner of my favorite book of 2018…and maybe 2017 too.   Hannah also wrote The Nightingale, which is another of my all time faves.  I think I need to read the rest of her books.

You follow the wonderfully clever, kind, hardworking Leni from about age 13-30 and you’ll love her and cheer for her more and more every step of the way.   Amazon’s review sums this book up perfectly:  “The Great Alone is a daring, beautiful, stay-up-all-night story about love and loss, the fight for survival, and the wildness that lives in both man and nature.”
