Crosswalk Project at Dunwoody Elementary School

Starting October 3, the City of Dunwoody will begin a pilot project at the crosswalk across Womack Road in front of the west driveway to Dunwoody Elementary School. The project is designed to address concerns about pedestrian safety and reports of drivers not yielding to children, parents, or the crossing guard in the crosswalk. To do this, the City will use temporary materials to close off the right-turn lane to drivers to allow it to function as an extension of the sidewalk and reduce the number of lanes pedestrians must cross to get across Womack Road (see map). Drivers will still be able to turn right into the school driveway from the through lane.

Dunwoody Safe Streets Program Manager Jonathan DiGioia has met with school leaders and families to discuss the plans. To learn more about the goals of the pilot project and the research behind it, visit the project page: https://bit.ly/descrosswalk
