January is always an exciting time for DHA. Per our bylaws, the annual meeting is always set for January. This is the time when new executive board members are elected, hear from elected officials and other community leaders, and awards are presented to residents who made a positive difference in the community. Then we look ahead to the plans for the coming year.

There are two significant items on the Annual Meeting agenda.

  1. First, the membership is electing two new executive board members. Executive board terms are three years each and the 6-member board serves in staggered terms. These members are selected from the general board of directors by a nominating committee and voted on by the membership at this time. At the end of the meeting, the executive board meets privately to decide who will take on which officer role.
  2. Next are some updates to the bylaws. Every organization has a set of rules like this and they have to be updated from time to time. DHA’s bylaws were edited by the board this year to reflect Dunwoody’s evolution from an unincorporated region to a bona fide city where government representatives are Dunwoody residents.

Because we’re still dealing with the effects of COVID and all the turmoil of 2020, the annual meeting has to be reinvented.
The meeting itself will take place at the North Woods Pavilion at the Dunwoody Nature Center. Seating will be very limited for safety.

For the first time, member voting on the issues named above will occur online before the actual meeting time. Votes will be collected through 12 noon on Friday and announced at the meeting on Sunday.

Likewise the traditional awards presentation will also change for the same reasons. At the meeting itself, the awards and their recipients will be announced with their biography. The award presentations will be arranged and recorded on video individually, then shared online.

The one tradition that will remain the same is the grand finale: the announcement of the July 4th Parade Theme and Grand Marshall.  The parade is in planning stages in hopes that it will be restored for 2021.

Where there is a will, there is a way.
Thank you for supporting our community through Dunwoody Homeowners Association initiatives.
