Girl Scouts Earn Silver Award for Memorial Garden at Hospital

Kathryn Kammerer and Ashley Veazey of Girl Scout Troop 29411 have earned their Girl Scout Silver Award by making the world a little brighter for employees, patients and visitors at Emory Johns Creek Hospital by creating a Memorial Garden on hospital grounds.

Kathryn and Ashley worked with Laurie Hansen, Association Administrator for the hospital, after Laurie expressed her need for getting the memorial garden project launched. The scouts consulted with Austin Outdoor to develop a serene landscape design.

This special garden is a sanctuary for employees to visit during the day and remember their fellow staff members who have passed away. Families with loved ones in the hospital may also enjoy the peaceful setting.

The scouts raised money for the project by hosting two in-hospital bake sales and one dog wash, plus they received many donations for babysitting.

They would like to thank David Simmons, Director of Environmental Services for Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Barktown and Suds in Dunwoody, and Winfred Bailey, Tom Frost, Andrew Pacetti and Michael Meatheringham of Dunwoody Baptist Church Men’s Group for their support.

And last but not least, thank you to the Dunwoody and Johns Creek community who supported this gift that keeps on giving.
Kathryn and Ashley have been in Girl Scouts together since 3rd grade. Although they attend different schools, their troop brings them together each month to learn more about their community and how to better serve others.
