The Dunwoody Police Department is excited to announce the formation of our first K-9 program. This program was made possible, in part, by the generous support of the Dunwoody Police Foundation and their donors, including the Rotary Club of Dunwoody.
“The addition of two K-9s to the Dunwoody Police Department will be an asset to our operations and enhance our capabilities” said Chief of Police Billy Grogan.

It is a perfect fit with our mission, and it was made possible due to the hard work of our board and the generosity of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, many citizens, and businesses that share a desire for excellent public safety in Dunwoody” said Rick Holland, president of the Foundation.
The Dunwoody Police Foundation is a proud supporter of the Dunwoody Police Department. Using tax-deductible community donations, the Foundation provides emergency monetary aid for injured officers, co-sponsors the purchase of specialized equipment, and assists in community outreach programs. The Dunwoody Police Department is asking for the community’s help in giving these two great dogs their names. Over the past week, City of Dunwoody staff, members of the Dunwoody Police Foundation, and others have submitted name suggestions for the dogs. One is a Belgian Malinois and the other is a Dutch Shepherd. The naming list has been narrowed down to 10 finalists for consideration by the community. The two new dogs and selected handlers will undergo intensive training over the next several months in areas such as drug searches, article searches, tracking, and obedience. Once trained and certified, the dogs will be used to detect illegal narcotics, conduct article searches, and assist in the search of missing persons or suspects. The training program and handler selection process is expected to be completed in early 2021.
