Obituary: Joseph Michael “Mike” Veazey

Joseph Michael “Mike” Veazey, 57, from Dunwoody, GA received his heavenly healing from a long battle with brain cancer on August 24, 2017. He was born in Huntington, West Virginia and was the son of the late Morris K. Veazey and Betty (Fulks) Veazey. He was surrounded by his loving family—his wife Sonya, son Grant and his daughter Ashley. His surviving siblings are brother Morris “Zip” Veazey and wife, Judith, sister Janet Weant and husband, Mike, brother John Veazey and wife Karen as well as many beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mike graduated from Marshall University, became a LTJG in the U.S. Navy and then eventually made a career in commercial real estate. But Mike’s true calling was loving others and sharing his faith with anyone he met. Whether it was serving as a Deacon at Dunwoody Baptist Church, a volunteer in their youth ministry, AWANA program or sports ministry, as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, as a foster care respite volunteer, or as a mentor and counselor to cancer patients to provide them hope and encouragement, Mike simply loved God and loved people.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Dunwoody Baptist Church (1445 Mt. Vernon Rd., Dunwoody, GA) on Saturday, September 9 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the General Missions Fund at Dunwoody Baptist Church. Checks can be made to DBC with “Veazey Missions Fund” in the memo line and sent to Dunwoody Baptist Church, 1445 Mt. Vernon Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338.
