Three Resources to Help Mental Health and Addiction/Recovery Issues During COVID 19 From the GA Council on Substance Abuse

As we move deeper into the COVID-19 national emergency, secondary medical issues begin to manifest themselves. Isolation is the number one factor in recovery from both addiction and mental health issues. Combined with stress, anxiety, and uncertainty, it is essential Georgia address the inevitable mental health and addiction / recovery issues which will grow themselves.

The opposite of addiction is human connection. The longer people are isolated, the greater the possibility of return to use, and given that early recovery is very fragile, people seeking recovery need to know there are those of us out here who are successfully living in recovery.

The Georgia Council on Substance Abuse wants to share these three free virtual opportunities for Georgians to connect during COVID-19. We invite you to share these in your newsletter for your employees / members who are looking for information during this challenging time.

Additionally, our Executive Director, Neil Campbell, and Chief of Policy, Jeff Breedlove are available as guest on your virtual town halls to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health and addiction recovery community in Georgia. As you know, this population in well into the millions statewide and people are seeking answers and solutions. Contact Jeff Breedlove at 404-615-5735 or jeff@gasubstanceabuse.org to have Neil and/or Jeff as a guest.

People in recovery from mental health and substance use issues are facing a particularly challenging time without access to their community supports. It is essential Georgia listen and respond to the needs of our behavioral health recovery community to prevent unnecessary demands on Georgia’s health care system.
