July 5:

Tomorrow is National Fried Chicken Day, so that means marinating your chicken today.
I marinate chicken overnight in buttermilk, cayenne, paprika, salt and pepper. But some people like to brine chicken.
Fried chicken was introduced to America by the Scottish but it was the techniques of combining spices brought by enslaved people from West Africa and African-Americans that gave us the chicken we know and love today.

Imagine my surprise and delight when I realized one of the places to try on the Eater Atlanta Restaurants To Try This Weekend was Shirini Bakery at the Dunwoody Farmers Market. The specific suggestion was for their macaroons that are full of robust, authentic flavors and guess what Audra Hurston Anders, they are gluten-free. The macaroons are delicious and since I love all things pistachio, this cake was not shared with anyone.
Fefel (cayenne & coconut), chocolate, limón zest and Zereshk (barberry) macaroons and pistachio cake with rose whipped cream frosting.
